New! CSA Illustrata: Technology Expands Research Opportunities
Like its predecessor CSA Illustrata: Natural Sciences, CSA Illustrata: Technology offers groundbreaking deep indexing that pinpoints articles with high-value tables and figures that are linked to full-text articles. As you know, deep indexing helps researchers to instantly identify findings that are critical to their work and make discoveries in unexpected sources.

CSA Illustrata: Technology complements CSA Illustrata: Natural Sciences and can be used together to explore wide-ranging topics and journals spanning fields of study. CSA Illustrata: Technology covers key subject areas including materials science, aerospace, high technology, physics, mathematics, architecture, and civil, earthquake, environmental, electrical, mechanical, biomechanical, and biochemical engineering, etc. Plus, CSA Illustrata: Technology includes technology-specific graphs and illustrations--allowing users to see the actual data collected, observed, or modeled and quickly determine its relevance to their specific work.

supporting the research process. Recognitions include:
  • 2008 CODiE Award Winner for Best Online Science or Technology Service

  • CHOICE 2007 Outstanding Academic Title

  • A Library Journal Best of Reference Pick of 2007

  • Ranked third in ten, just after smartphone and social networking innivations, as "...one of the most important products of the year (2007)..."

Scientists Want Access to Data in Tables and Figures

In a recent presentation at the Bloomsbury Conference, Jans Vegen of CERN: The European Organization for Nuclear Research presented findings of a survey of CERN scientists. In answer to the question "Imagine your ideal scientific information system in five years from now. Which additional features will be important?" the top response was "access to data in tables and figures" (74 percent)--a need perfectly filled by the Illustrata resources.

CERN: The European Organization for Nuclear Research supports a staff of 2,500 and 8,000 researchers. It has been awarded three Nobel Prizes and is credited with inventing the Web.

What People Are Saying About CSA Illustrata
In a recent review from The Charleston Advisor, Meris A. Mandernach and Jody Condit Fagan of Carrier Library at Virginia's James Madison University said that "including graphical results with text citations is of valuable assistance in simply understanding the quality and nature of results." Later in the review, they added that some of the faculty at James Madison University had been trying to get their students to understand how to present data effectively in visual components, and for them, "Illustrata epitomizes why doing so is important and valuable for researchers."

"With traditional databases, you never know what figures and tables you're going to get. Until you look the article up, you don't know what it's going to have." -- Dr. Samuel Flaxman, Post-Doctoral Researcher, Princeton University

"It's much easier to find the information; it's much, much better." -- Dr. Marco Columbini, Professor of Biology, University of Maryland

"I waste a lot of time looking through papers which look like they contain some data, but they don't ... I definitely see this database as a significant improvement." -- Dr. Maria Prokopenko, Geochemist, Princeton University

"...Highly recommended. Lower-level undergraduates through faculty/researchers." -- M. Burright, CHOICE, August 2007
